Bugaboos July 2005

Part 1: Approach

This summer, my friend, Ted, and I made a 7 day trip into the Bugaboos in British Columbia.
We had a great time seeing this beautiful alpine area for the first time, and climbing a few of its mega classics.

A 45K dirt road leaves highway 93 near the town of Brisco.
Near the end of it, the granite towers of The Bugaboos come into view.

Here's the team at the trailhead.
That's me, Mark, on the left and Ted on the right.
Despite efforts to "keep it light", our packs were still way too heavy!

Ted on the short but steep trail.
The top of Snowpatch Spire can be seen above his head.

Mark on one of the steep spots!

Ted can't believe his eyes!!
A trail of concrete steps up a steep slab.

After three miles and 2200 vertical feet, the Conrad Kain Hut is reached.
This hut sleeps 50 people. It was very crowded, so we continued another 800 vertical feet to.....

... Applebea Dome, a very cool alpine climbers camp.
We stayed here for a 6 nights.
